X Factor : Celebrity branded ‘fix’ as The Chase Jenny Ryan axed before live shows
However, despite being touted as an early favourite to win, Nicole Scherzinger shocked fans after deciding to send the 37-year-old old packing.
Breaking the news, the Pussycat Dolls singer said: ‘I felt such joy when you performed yesterday, because I felt that you felt joyful.
‘Even though you have such a distinct, unique voice, I just wonder if you’re versatile enough in the live shows.
‘I can’t give you a yes. I’m so sorry, Jenny.’
Instead, Nicole opted to take Victoria Ekanoye, Ricki Lake and Martin Bashir through to the next week’s Live Show with her, as well as Vinnie Jones.
And those watching on at home were livid with her choices, flocking to Twitter to debate the decision.
‘Jenny Ryan was incredible cannot believe she isn’t going to the live shows #XFactorCelebrity,’ one fumed.
‘Disappointed that #Jenny Ryan the Vixen didn’t get through on X factor. She was brilliant,’ another commented.
A Twitter user argued: ‘Could this programme get anymore s**t it’s so fixed Jenny Ryan done so well but gets kicked off WTF. #XFactorCelebrity.’
While a follower added: ‘Sitting watching Celebrity X-Factor absolutely fuming cause Nicole didn’t put through Jenny Ryan. Is she deaf or suhin??? Like suhin is up (sic).’
But we wouldn’t rule out the possibility of Jenny somehow returning as a wild-card next week.
Stranger things have been known happened…
Here are a few facts about Jenny Ryan
Jenny Alexis Ryan (born 2 April 1982) is an English quizzer and one of the five chasers on the ITV game show The Chase.
Ryan wrote questions for the pilot episode of The Chase in 2009. She joined the show in 2015, making her debut appearance on 2 September.
She was recommended for The Chase by Anne Hegerty, as they had both competed together on the same quiz team, where Ryan was the captain of the team.
Her nickname on the show is “The Vixen”, in reference to her red hair and (previously) ponytail; Walsh came up with the name and the producers liked it since “vixens are notoriously clever and cunning”.
She is also referred to as “The Bolton Brainiac” for her place of residence. In the Chase episode aired on 5 September 2019, Ryan went through the whole show without getting a question wrong.
The X Factor: Celebrity returns next Saturday, live on ITV.
